Hello Kidd Families! 

I would like to start by introducing myself. My name is Derek Cherry, and I will be the Principal at Thomas Kidd for the 2024/25 school year. I have heard wonderful things about this school community, and I am looking forward to building new connections with students, their families and staff. I hope you all had an enjoyable and healthy summer. I was able to spend some time on Vancouver Island at Tofino and Seachelt, and I did some fly fishing in the Williams Lake area. The rest of my summer was spent with family and friends visiting.

The Kidd staff and I are very excited to welcome everyone back to another year of learning and connecting!  We look forward to seeing all our returning families and a big welcome to all the new families that we have joining the community!

We also want to take time to welcome our new staff. Joining us this year are Zelia Chan (ELL/LRT), Karen Chahal (Relief Teacher), Rachel Fong (Classroom Teacher), Sukaina Jaffer (ELL Teacher) and Shahrat Faisel (Education Assistant). 

Returning Students

All returning Grade 1 – 7 students will be going back to their teacher’s classroom from last year and will attend from 9:00 – 10:00 am on Tuesday, September 3^rd. The rest of the week will be regular school days (8:45 am – 2:45 pm). Students will be lining up in the same spot they lined up last year for school. Some classes may have a differnt teacher from last year, but this will only be for the week.

Below you will find a map reminding students where to line up for the week. Mrs. Luchene’s class please line up beside the MLC.

New Students 

For families new to Kidd. All new Grade 1 -7 students will meet outside the school office on Tuesday, September 3^rd at 9:00 am until 10:00 am. The rest of the week will be regular school days (8:45 am – 2:45 pm). New students will be put into temporary classrooms for the first week.

Kindergarten Students 

For Kindergarten families, please follow the Gradual Entry schedule that was sent out in July.  On the first day Group A Kindergarten Students will attend from 9:00 – 9:45 am and Group B Kindergarten Students will attend from 1:00 – 1:45 pm 

For the rest of the week, Kindergarten students will attend following the Gradual Entry schedule

Below is the Bell Schedule for the year 

8:45 am         School Begins

10:20 – 10:35 am         Recess 

11:55 – 12:45 pm (12:10 outside bell)         Lunch 

2:45 pm       Dismissal 

At the end of next week, we will be sending home our first Week at a Glance (WAAG) for the new school year. In the WAAG you will find information about upcoming events, reminders and other topics of interest. A WAAG will be sent home each Friday by e-mail. It will also be posted on our school website.
