School Focus 2025- 2026

School Learning Focus Post

This section aligns with Ministry school plan expectations, including learner profiles, baseline data, priority learners, and focused improvement goals.

School Learning Focus for the 2025/26 school year Our school learning focus this year is on supporting student improvement in numeracy, particularly in demonstrating proficiency in computational fluency. Also, a continued focus is on student enjoyment of numeracy with a goal of increasing engagement.
Evidence-Informed Rationale (WHY) Based on Foundations Skills Assessment (FSA) item analysis students in Grades 4 and 7 can demonstrate computational fluency using one approach, which for most of our students is the traditional method. To achieve proficiency in the area of computational fluency, students are required to demonstrate multiple strategies.
Priority Learners We are focussed on moving students from developing to proficiency in computational fluency and focussing on increased student engagement in math.
Baseline Data  We used Foundation Skills Assessment (FSA) data for Grade 4 and Grade 7 and learned that 13 students in Grade 4 and 7 demonstrated an emerging understanding which represents 38 percent of the students who participated in the FSA. In addition, staff also learned that 23.5 percent of students were at emerging or developing competency in numeracy as reported through the 2024 term 3 written updates.
Action Statement (HOW)

Participation in a Numeracy Professional Development Day workshop

Working with the District Teacher Consultant

Intended Impact (SO WHAT) We are aiming to have all students who are developing to become proficient in computational fluency. We are also intending to make math more enjoyable for our students.
Evidence of Impact (HOW WE WILL KNOW) We will use student scanning questions to get a sense of their proficiency in computational fluency as well as their enjoyment of math. We will also be looking at term two report card information to see if students have become more proficient in numeracy.
Alignment Statement The district supports every learner to achieve their highest potential. The district strategic plan objective one is to improve literacy and numeracy outcomes for all learners to support success in all areas of the kindergarten to Grade 12.
