How many squares?

Students in the Grade 6/7 class spent time collaborating with each other to calculate how many squares were in the diagram that they were given. Students demonstrated a variety of computational startegies to come up with the answer. When asked about the activity, students commented on how much they enjoyed it because they had to think it through. This activity is an example of how students are using computational strategies for problem solving.
