Student Learning Survey Evidence Connected to SHARP, Building Resiliency and School Community
In the Spring of 2023, Grade 4 and Grade 7 students participated in the annual Student Learning Survey that invites students to answer questions about their learning at school. The information below indicates the strong understanding that our students have for our S.H.A.R.P acronym and the important role it plays in building community. The S.H.A.R.P acronym establishes the values of our school community. The Student Learning Survey also provides us with valuable information on how are students are being supported with anxiety and the use of coping skills to help them.
Questions from the survey connected to our S.H.A.R.P acronym are listed below along with results for each question.
At school I know how my school expects me to behave (Gr. 4) and at school, rules and expectations for behavior are clear to me.
92.8 percent of students in Grade 4 understand the rules and expectations at school which can connect back to the strong use of our S.H.A.R.P acronym to help students understand how to be in the school and how to connect with others positively. In Grade 7, 89.4 percent of students understood. For the 2024/25 school year staff have committed to continuing to support our students in their understanding of S.H.A.R.P. and it's importance in building a community set of common values .
Staff, last year worked in classrooms to connect Social Emotional Learning (SEL) and anxiety by increasing self-awareness. Students learned to identify situations that cause anxiety and also explored strategies to use. The results from the student Learning Survey are below.
71.0 percent of students could identify things that they can do to feel better when they are stressed and 41 percent of Grade 7's could identify things that they can do. Staff will continue to support students in their understanding of everyday anxiety and help them internalize strategies that they can use.
Thomas Kidd staff will continue to support our students in Social/ Emotional learning as they value it's importance as the foundation for success. Consistent review of S.H.A.R.P. as well as continued lessons related to anxiety will occur this year. There is however, as feeling amongst staff that it is a good time to shift our focus for the upcoming year. Over the next few months, staff will participate in a scanning process to determine where we they would like to go next to support student learning at Kidd.
